Unit 25: Selection and use of supplementary materials and activities.
How do we select and use supplementary materials and activities?
Do supplementary materials
may also come from authentic sources? Well,
supplementary materials are books and other materials that teachers use in
addition to the coursebook. First, there are many reasons to use supplementary
materials like to replace unsuitable material in the coursebook and to add
variety to our teaching, so there are cases that a teacher choose a coursebook
but it does not provides interesting activities. Second, those could have some advantages
and disadvantages like using DVDs will provide visual context, but sometimes
schools do not provide equipment. However, when the book does not fill students’
needs, the teacher should find out extra activities in order to reinforce the
students learning process. To conclude, if
a teacher feels that is necessary to use supplementary material he should be
aware of what supplementary materials are available in the school.
